Public transport in London during New Year Eve?
Hi I'll be arriving in London on New Year Eve for countdown and wondering how easy it is to access public transport once the fireworks, etc have ended? Are the tubes/night buses absolutely packed and if so, would you recommend staying within walking distance of the London Eye?

Tranlate that into American = 12 0h one to thirty after fower a.m. 12midnight 4.30am Big Ben strikes Midnight to herald the New Year (2008) plus the London fireworks - Bejing, eat yer heart out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4tqsQktE2w&feature=related

- transport will be free, but oh jesus christ you do not know what you are letting yourself in for. it is impossible to describe the amount of people that turn up to see the fireworks, and then most of them want to get the train home. i went last year and i couldn't even get into waterloo station so i ended up walking to vauxhall where about 5 trains i could have got on went past completely full up. i had to fight to get onto a train and i nearly feinted it was so packed. i didn't get back til about 3 or 4, and i had left as soon as the fireworks were over.
- best thing you can do is stay away from central london, get a nice pub near your hotel, and have a drink, soak up the atmosphere and just enjoy the night, central london is not a nice place on new years eve, believe me i have done it more then once, but never again
