Driving in Australia?
Hey, I'm planning to come to Australia (Sydney) and work for 6-8 months. I'm Canadian, and i have a Canadian drivers license. Will I need to obtain an Australian license in order to drive there? Do you think it is even worth it to get a license and buy a cheap car for the amount of time I will be there, or do you think that public transportation will do. I have been to Australia before, and I know that public transport is much better than here in Canada. Opinions and any info on drivers license would be great, thanks! =] Haha, yes, I'm aware that things are not the same or, "backwards" down there. Like I said, I've spent a lot of time there, but not since I've been able to drive.

- You are fine with your Canadian licenses. Be aware though, everything is backwards down there. Left is right and right is left. It messed me up the first time I was down there. It has to do with the spin of the world.
- You can drive on your Canadian license for 6 months I think it is but I wouldn't bother buying a car. to much hassle trying to get rid of it for the time you are here. Use public transport and hire a car for a week or 2 if you want to explore outside of Sydney. Sydney is a terrible place to drive around . also if you want a break away say to Brisbane or Cairns keep an eye out for the deals Jetstar has friday frenzy between 4pm and 8pm fridays and Virgin have a happy hour each day 12pm till 1pm
- Licence requirements As a temporary overseas visitor, if you hold a current driver licence from another country, you are allowed to drive in NSW on your overseas licence as long as: You remain a temporary overseas visitor Your overseas licence remains current You have not been disqualified from driving in NSW or elsewhere and You have not had your licence suspended or cancelled or your visiting driver privileges withdrawn.
- adjusting to the opposite side of the road is rough
