Location Transport

Does anyone know what the public transport is like in Papineauville, Quebec?

I am going to Papineauville as a language assistant for my year abroad, and was wondering if anyone knows what the transport is like there? I know it's only a small village so am not expecting regular buses! Any other information on the town would be welcomed too!

  1. Papineauville is a small town along Route 148, and is located almost directly between Montreal and Ottawa. It is one town over from the town of Montebello, famous for hosting various dignitaries and high-level government meetings at the hotel there (Chateau Montebello). It does not appear that the town of Papineauville has a public transit service. I checked the city website and there is no mention. The closest services are probably the Services de Transport Outaouais (www.sto.ca) that handle bus service for towns near Gatineau. There could be a smaller regional service, but don't expect anything close to regular service. However, I did see it mentioned that Greyhound/Voyageur bus lines and a couple others have bus service that goes down Route 148 and you would likely be able to purchase a ticket to get to Montreal or Ottawa from some depot along that highway. The Outaouais region is known for having lots of snow in winter season here in Quebec, and the summer black fly and mosquito season can be a challenge too. The local Canadian Tire or Zellers retail chain should be able to get you anything that you need for the area, such as bug repellent, warm winter boots/coat/gloves/hat, and such. But the countryside is beautiful, the air is fresh and clean, and you have the river and the marina in the area that should be great if you like to sit and read, catch some sun, or watch people go by. If you like hiking, expect to see foxes, rabbits, racoons, and perhaps the occasional deer. It is rare to encounter anything more dangerous than a skunk in this area.
