Kaikoura and Raglan of New Zealand?

Hi, I would be in New Zealand for only 4 nights. My agenda is Kaikoura and Raglan but i'm short on time and travel funds. I would be arriving in Christchurch and departing from Auckland, much time is wasted on travelling. I need any helpful suggestion or reference on the best route. My planned route is as followed, 1) 15/09,Christchurch to Kaikoura for 1 night stay then back to Christchurch 2) 16/09 the next morn for my flight to Auckland for 1 night.3) 17/09 The next morn would be the trip to Raglan via Hamilton for a night stay, 4) 18/09, back to Auckland via Hamilton for 1 last night then back to Sydney on the 19/09. I was wondering is there anyway of eliminating the return trip to Christchurch from Kaikoura and head straight to Auckland or Raglan directly. Also any direct public transport service from Auckland to Raglan? Would hiring a car be a better option then going to Hamilton for the bus service? In short, can my trip be just 1 direction (starting from Christchurch and ending in Auckland) rather than multi return trips? Many thanks!

1. You could go from Kaikoura to Picton and catch a ferry across to Wellington on the North Island and go from Wellington to Hamilton and then up to Auckland. I am not sure if it would be any faster, but there would be no backtracking
