shipping a car cross country - how to shipping a car cross the country?

I want to ship my car from UK to China. What the things that I need to be taken into consideration before I choice to "transport" or "ship" my car across country with a commercial carrier service?

  1. I would strongly advise against transporting a car from one country to another. You will encounter an almost impossible paperwork problem, and with this and the cost of transporting the car, your car will amount to a very, very expensive car. You should simply buy a car in China
  2. I know of a couple people who have done this. The paperwork is a bit of a hassle. Make sure you have your title and or certificate of origin. Drain ALL of the fluids out of the vehicle. That includes gas, engine oil, transfer case oil, transmission oil, brake, washer fluid, etc.... everything.Coat the vehicle with a good coating of wax, anti-rust treatment, then wd-40 or some other water repelling coating. You do this to prevent the sea-water mist that is going to inevitably seep into the container from sticking to the car and leaving salt deposits, which will destroy your paint and cause rust. If you are packing the car in the container your self, you will need to make sure that the axles are anchored to the floor of the container and you are using wheel chocks to prevent the car from rolling around in the container. Do NOT compress your suspension, so don't anchor using the frame or body. You will mess up your suspension if you do it this way. Anchor the wheels/axles. This frees up your suspension to articulate when things get rough. that's about it/ HTH D
  3. There are several things that you need to be taken into consideration. The type of vehicle to be shipped and the condition of that vehicle will determine the cost of shipping and the method of shipping. When the cost of shipping is more important than the method of shipping, you will more than likely have the red carpet rolled out to you along with a lengthy bill of "hidden" fees, and possibly a damaged vehicle. There are extra charges attached to the cost of shipping as determined by your specific needs and the type of vehicle.
