Location Transport

I am going to drive for Swift Transportation. Will I have to take a road test to get my own truck?

I already have a cdl but little experience. After my training with a mentor will I have to take a road test to get my own truck or will they go by the mentors word. Please dont answer unless you work or have worked for Swift. or you really know the answer to this question.

  1. yes you will take a road test. and good luck with swift!
  2. well i haven't worked for Swift but i've tried out trucking, any company that has to train you first before you are assigned a truck you'll be road tested first, but if you already have enough experience usually you just do a short orientation and then assigned a truck, usually you'll have the truck withing a couple days but thats only if you are hired as an experienced driver
  3. They aren't going to allow you behind the wheel of one of their trucks without a road test. They are financially liable for any damage you do in their vehicle, and you must demonstrate to their satisfaction that you are a safe, responsible driver. Many drivers use companies such as Swift to gain valuable driving experience which they can use to get on with better paying companies.
  4. i never worked for swifty but I have been a trainer for different companies and an O/O too, when I trained, trainees stayed with trainers until they were deemed "FIT" to handle it themselves, you would Take a road test to get hired to begin with, but when a trainer turns you loose, the company expects you to be able to be on your own. I have heard good and bad about swift so don't expect all the cheers and roses a recruiter has told you.
