Location Transport

How do I LEGALLY transport a weapon through airport security?

I am currently moving to New Mexico and will be flying. I would like to LEGALLY transport my .45 through airport security. However I do not want to check it in to baggage. I would like it to be in my carry-on. Without ammunition of course.

  1. you will have to check it it will not be allowed as a carry-on and you will have to declared to the ticket agent and TSA agent
  2. No way, no how You have to declare it when you check in. It must be unloaded and in a locked, hard sided case with ammunition separated. No way you are going to be allowed to bring it onboard as carry on EDIT Dan - that is not the correctway, either. Sending it through those two carriers, you will have to declare them as well and they will have to be shipped to an FFL dealer.
  3. You can't. Even unloaded weapons are not permitted in carry-on bags. Weapons must be declared at check-in and checked as baggage. They also must be packed in a locked, hard-sided container. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm#6
  4. go back to saudi arabia
  5. You cant. End off.
  6. If you were one of the few people legally permitted to take firearms aboard, you would know it. And you would know how. For information about legally transporting your .45, see www.tsa.gov.
  7. This is not, repeat, NOT going to happen. Attempting this will get you a lot of trouble, missing your flight, and a sentence in federal prison. The way to do this is to box it up and send it to yourself via UPS or FedEx. Doing this will give you a tracking number and you can insure it as well. Regards, Dan
  8. As others have said you will not be able to carry it on the plane. You can pack it your checked bags, but you are required to declare it when you check in your bag. I'm not sure I would do this as stuff including guns come up missing all the time from checked bags. Also do not mail like the dork above me stated. That can get you jail time. If you do mail it take it do a FFL and have it mailed to another FFL where you are going. There will be a fee but that is the only way you can ship a gun.
