Need a recommendation on housing/neighborhoods in the city of San Francisco?

We are 3 single girls looking for possible neighborhoods to live in (are there any high rise apartment buildings here?) close to retail/restaurants/public transport and in a relatively safe area (by safe, I mean like not near the red light district) Price isn't really an issue. We used to live in midtown, Manhattan NY so we're accustomed to it. Where should we start searching??

1. Sound like you guy have some $$, try downtown where Union Sq or along the pier areas. Nob hill is pretty nice too.
2. there are some band new high rises on embarcadero which is right across from the ballpark really nice, newly built up neighborhood fun and lively part of town
