Is there marine transportation from Florida to Bahamas that is not a cruise?

I was looking at marine transportation options from Ft Lauderdale to Bahamas and they are all "vacation cruises" or "casino cruises". What happen to the "Transportation Only" options? in the early 1980s I would travel from Ft Lauderdale to the Bahamas on a transportation only ferry and it ran everyday. Why did they do away with "Transportation only" options? Does anyone know?

2. Discovery Cruise is really a ferry to Grand Bahamas. It's no frills and many people use it as transportation only. It's cheap as well. http://www.discoverycruiseline.com/home/cruise_only
3. There are normally private boats that travel to the Bahamas from Florida. Same goes for Bahamian postal mail vessels that travel daily to Miami and Fort Lauderdale to drop off mail and parcels into the U.S. mail system. You can inquire with anyone at the various marinas in Fort Lauderdale if they have the contact info for any private owners that operate private cruises. You can also call Port Everglades port officials at (954) 523-3404 to inquire if they know of any passenger ships that frequently travel to the Bahamas and are not cruises.
