Trip to Thousand Islands from Windsor, Canada - Need help!?

I am planning a trip to the 1000 islands from windsor in Ontario. The problem is I don't have a car and can't avail a car pool because a few friends are also going with me. Can someone tell me what would be the easiest or cheapest way to travel by public transport? Also, how long can it take to go? Then, I can plan it accordingly to return on the same day or the day after. Thanks in advance and 10 points for best ans!!!!! :)

  1. The only possible option would be Grayhound bus Check their web site and see how close you come. If you don't have a car, they would be the cheapest, and possibly only option. http://www.greyhound.com/home/
  2. You can also take the Via train, although it's probably more expensive than Greyhound. You'd go from Windsor to Toronto and then Toronto to Kingston (up to 5 trains daily); there's also one train daily that stops at Gananoque and Brockville. http://www.viarail.ca/en
  3. The bus from Windsor to Kingston/Gananoque is the cheapest BUT it's a 16+ hour trip. The Train is about $100 more (to Kingston) but it's only a 7-8 hour trip. If you were planning to take the boat tour from Gananoque you'd have to find your own way from Kingston to Gan--I dont' think there's a VIA station there. edit: Thanks for the clarification, eternus.
