would i be better off i buy a cheap car or continue to use public transport?

- Do both. Buy a GM product.
- Do your employers provide somewhere you can park & you won't be charged? Will you be passing through the congestion zone? What will your insurance premiums be like? The costs of petrol? If you're coming from outside London or the great London area what time are you prepared to get up in the morning to ensure you're at work in time?
- If you work hard enough there's no reason why you can't afford a car
- you have to balance the benefits against the detriments. Does public transport pick you up and drop you off near where you are/want to go? Is the public transport in your area safe and reliable as well as reasonably priced? For vehicle ownership: cost of vehicle? insurance premiums? gas and maintenance costs? unexpected repairs? place to park at home and at work? depreciation? It's a cost efficiency vs convenience equation.
- It sounds tempting to get a car - but where are you going to park it whenever you use it - even IF you can find a space it will cost you a small fortune and if you're thinking of using it in central London, there's the congestion charge to consider and the likelihood that you'll be towed away EVEN IF you're parked quite legally - Westminster wardens generally find it hard to use the English language so reasoned argument os out of the question ! ! !
- It rather depends. Unless you're in the middle of a rural area without public transport, it makes much more sense not to have a car
