San Francisco Neighborhoods?
I am looking to move to SF mid January and have narrowed down my areas of interest to The Mission, Inner Sunset and maybe inner Richmond. I'll be looking for a room/share situation for about $600 tops. Can anyone tell me some good perimeters for searching for apt in these areas N/S/E/W. I am a filmmaker that just moved to Portland from NYC and now want to discover SF. Its def not diverse enough here for me, and a little too spread out. I need to be close to public transport, and a good funky vibe. Ive also been hearing about the East Bay/Oakland/Berkeley area but have no clue on where to start with that. It would have to be fairly close to SF and good transport.

- Richmond is your best bet, it's more affordable and you can always take the 38 line downtown or muni etc. I've been to Portland and it's very very mellow.
- Inner Sunset is nice, diverse, on the N Judah line into downtown. If your from NYC, you should check out parts of the Tenderloin, especially around The Hilton Hotel or just off Van Ness, yeah it can be "sketchy" but as a New Yorker you should have no problem and the rents are cheapest there.
- Richmond has a lot of different buses you can take and very convenient. Lots of late night food dines. There are plenty of different asian restaurants there too. It's harder to park than Sunset though. Sunset has a lot of transportations too. But it depends what street, some has more stops than others. Check out muni and their bus routes. Both districts are close to the beach, and relatively safe.
