How do I find an auto shipper with guaranteed prices?

I am trying to ship a car from Florida to California the first week of December. The quotes I get, even with the companies with good reviews from transport reviews.com and BBB are giving me "open" quotes that they say could change to a higher rate (2 to 3 times higher) due to supply and demand by that shipping date. If you buy an airline ticket, you pay what you see at the time you book it and same with any quotes I have dealt with in the past. The moving companies have given me a firm quote. The vet has given me a firm quote for certifying my cat for travel. What is the deal with auto shippers? This seems illegal to be able to change rates after booking at the rate they quote. How do I find a firm quote from a reliable transporter with a rate that I will know is the price I pay when the actual shipping day comes?

  1. What you found for info is interesting !!! I guess just keep looking and see if they all quote like that or not. You may want to ask why there would be a "demand" at certain times; does not make sense unless they are referring to different auto shows or (not very likely) sub contracting for auto dealers
  2. Just phone shipping companies and ask for a fixed price..
