UPS Item Shipping Weight is different than my products description?

I recently ordered something from ebay and on the product details it said it's weight was 6.8 lbs. On my tracking info from UPS, it says it's shipping weight is 5 lbs. I'm kind of worried it's the wrong thing that was shipped. So my question is, how strict is UPS about giving a precise weight? Or did they just put it down as 'about' 5 lbs and send it off? Thanks for the help

  1. Best to wait until your product gets there. I don't know what you ordered, and from whom but sometimes the shipper will put a lower weight on the bill of lading to save some money on the shipping costs. Regardless you'll have to wait until it gets there, before you can do anything about it. Hope you got the correct item on the way.
  2. No telling what the discrepancy is; you'll just have to wait until it gets there to see. UPS does weigh everything and does not take the shipper's word for it, so the 5 pounds is probably accurate. The shipper may not have a good scale; they could have stood on a bathroom scale and subtracted their weight or used some other inaccurate method to estimate the weight. Since it is on its way now, nothing you can do. You can ask the shipper to account for the difference. If they shipped the wrong thing, the resolution is entirely theirs to take care of.
