How can I Track down my stolen cell phone?

my cell phone was stolen 2 days ago and i've been going crazy trying to find the person that took it. i called it and some guy answered. i asked him what his name was and then he hung up. i try to call my number all the time but he always hangs up on me. i know it was someone at my school because i lost it at school. but all i know is that its a guy that stole my phone. my school is huge so theres no way i can find the guy that has it. is there anyway i can track it down???? and find the exact location where it is? i heard that it costs like $1,000 to get it tracked down but I don't think thats true. i reported it to the dean but they can't help. 1. Is it a contract phone? I would try the police non emergency number and asking them how to track it. Or, if you want, call the person with a different number than you use previously and threaten them that you have called the police and you are tracking them and will only stop if they put your phone in a place you can get it. just make sure he didn't take the sim card out though, then your screwed
2. Most phones cannot be tracked down. The most they can do is tell you the area they are using the phone in by seeing what towers are being used. GPS signal only receives info. Call the Phone company to make sure he can't use your phone as it bills you for what he does. If you have Verizon they can report the phone stolen which makes the phone unable to be activated. So it is useless to the person that has it.
