Location Transport

What is the cheapest way to transport my belongings across the country?

What is the cheapest way to transport only my belongings across the country? I plan on moving from MD to CA, but I don't want to rent a truck for my belongings and a trailer for my car, if I can ship my belongings via: train, truck, air... and just drive my car out. Id be shipping mostly clothes and some musical instruments. Not that that even matters but hey... it's worth putting in.

  1. carry it yourself on your back
  2. If it's just a few boxes, under 70lbs each, I would suggest FedEx or UPS. If you think it might be a pallet of boxes, look up some local LTL (less than truckload) freight carriers, i.e. Roadway, Conway, etc. Don't pay for a moving company unless you have a complete truckload. Be careful with the instruments and make sure to insure the shipment
  3. Ship all your clothes and non breakables (like dvds) FedEx. Put your instruments and other breakables in your car with you. I'm moving in a few weeks and I've already starting sending boxes, a large box full of clothes & shoes costs me about $60 each. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than renting a Uhaul for $2000! Good luck.
