I got a speeding ticket in New York and live in Canada.?
Will the ministry of transportation in Ontario or my insurance company be advised of this?

- I got a speeding ticket in New Zealand and lived in the US. The police officer, who was very friendly, said that because I was just visiting and would probably not come back again, I could get away with not paying the fine and go back to the US, no harm done. But if I came back to New Zealand and got pulled over by another cop for a different offense, chances are I could get in trouble because of the old speeding ticket. My insurance company in the US was not notified of the ticket. So, I believe that you are okay.
- It all depends on if NY and Ontario have what is called a "reciprocation agreement". That is where one municipality will honor legal summonses/documents (like a speeding ticket) issued by another - even across country borders. I don't know if there is one but you can take a chance and hope that one doesn't exist and say nothing. If one does exist you will eventually get something from the NYS DOT of the Ontario MOT. Good luck (and next time don't speed in NY).
- I do believe that NY and ONT have an agreement. If I get a ticket for a moving violation in another state, do I receive points on my NYS driver license? The NYSDMV does not record out-of-state violations committed by NYS drivers in other jurisdictions. The exceptions are alcohol-related violations, drug-related violations, and moving violations committed in Quebec or Ontario. Under special agreements, traffic convictions in Quebec or Ontario are recorded on NYS driver license records and carry points. Except for violations in Ontario and Quebec, points are not added to your NYS record for out-of-state violations. http://www.nysdmv.com/dmvfaqs.htm#tickets You might want to check further with MOT Ontario and your insurance company.
