transportation from Newark airport to Manhattan?

I would like to know if I fly to Newark airport at around 7:00 PM on a Thursday, what is the best transportation to get to a school in Manhattan from the airport? Can I just catch a taxi at the airport? Is it convenient? or is it better to make a cab reservation or a shuttle reservation? What is the most secure, time-saving way? I forgot to add that I need to report to the school by 9:00 PM? Does this fact limit my option to only taking taxi?

  1. there will be approx 327 cabs available for you at that time....
  2. THERES A BUS THAT WILL TAKE YOU FROM JERSEY STRAIGHT TO THE CITY....ITS A CITYLINE BUT THE FARE IS 5.00 BUT ITS VERY COMFY
  3. A taxi is convenient but expensive, probably $65 plus $8 tunnel toll plus a $7 tip unless the driver is a complete jerk. I'd take the airport Airtrain to the NJ Transit station, and the train to Penn Station in NYC. Buy a ticket from the machine before you get on the Airtrain. Depending on where your school is, you might be able to walk or take an NYC taxi (yellow cabs at the station cab stand) which will be much cheaper. You can also take the Coach USA bus from the airport, but even at 7 PM it's subject to traffic delays.
  4. Public transit. its cheap and more convenient than a taxi. You can take the Newark Airtrain, which is an automated monorail from the airport to the Newark-Liberty Airport train station, where a connection can be made to NJ Transit's Northeast Corridor Line. Take the NEC from the Newark-Liberty Airport train station to Penn Station in Manhattan. Once in Manhattan you can take the subway to your final destination in Manhattan. The fare on the subway is $2.25. If you preferred to take a taxi from Penn Station to your final destination in Manhattan, there are taxi stands outside of Penn Station on the 7th and 8th Avenue side of the station. I hope this information was very helpful. If you have any questions or need travel directions while in town, just drop me a line by clicking on the avatar and e-mail icon in the profile. 5. I would say cab is a good cheap idea. City bus is probably the best idea and cheapest. Trains - too much hassle. Private car is a safest idea but most expensive. If you want a private car I suggest http://www.royaluxury.com. You got choices.
  6. There will be ample cabs, or you could arrange for towncar service through firms like Carmel or Dial7. That will cost a little more, but you will likely wait less as they coordinate a pick up via cell phone. Super shuttle can be arranged at airport. It is a cheaper option, but may make multiple stops and take more time. If you are concerned about traffic or cost, you can also take the monorail to link up with an NJ Transit train to Newark Penn Station. From there, you can take that train to New York Penn Station in midtown or switch to the PATH train to lower Manhattan. This is the lowest cost option, but also the slowest and most difficult.
  7. Shuttle is only $18... http://www.goairlinkshuttle.com/
  8. Which schools you need to go to? Most best way are public transportation because taxis, vans and buses could ended up on trafic. Step 1: At Passenger terminals, there is New Jersey Transit ticket vending machine at Airtrain Newark stations. Buy $15 one way ticket to New York Penn Station and $5.50 Airtrain fee are included in that ticket. Step 2: Take Airtrain Newark to Newark Liberty International Airport. Step 3: Transfer to New Jersey Transit's Northeast Corridor or North Jersey Coast Line to New York Penn Station. Steps 4: Depends where you school is, you need to take subway.
