Location Transport

What faster, more pratical means of transportation than the airplane do you envision for the near future?

If you've taken a plane recently, you know how awful the experience can be. Long lineups, security check points, not to mention customs, and long hours in a confined space, etc. For instance, travelling from North America to Asia shouldn't take 10 hours. What other means of transportation do you envision for the near future? Would you prefer a faster mode of transportation, or a slower, more comfortable one?

  1. Americans always take the latest form of transportation, give it the best land and then abandon the previous mode.. The future will be some sort of computer-guided automobiles. Trans will be either monorail or mag-lev. Airlines have never made a profit. It's all government subsidies that keep them in business.
  2. First of all, faster is not necessarily the most practical. For domestic travel, I envision trains that travel over 300 MPH. For overseas travel, a quiet, very fast mode of transport that entails the use of electromagnetism as the energy source.
  3. Teleporters for the win! I can not wait for the day (not that it will likely happen in my life time) when you can get up Shit Shower and Shave, then stop on a pad to teleport to work any where on Earth, possibly the Moon or Mars... Okay fine, teleporters are not near futur tech. How about jet packs?
  4. High-speed trains are already preferable to aircraft for distances under 1000 miles or so. They get you from door to door a lot faster than airplanes, all things considered. They are not used in the U.S., however.
