Location Transport

How to transport tropical fish long distances?

I need to move tetras, corydoracats, killifish, and a 5 inch plecostomus across the country which will take 4 days. We will be traveling by car and I'm am wondering what would be the easiest and safest way to transport my fish? Would a styrafoam container work with airation? Thanks for the help.

  1. That would work but 4 days is a long time. You might want to get them delivered to your new location so they can get there in under 24 hours. Have someone else do it for you.
  2. if you care about your fish that much you might want to have them shipped to the new place and have a family member or a friend set it up for you ,,, bu if you are anything like me and have a set mind of how you w ant everything to look and all that jazz then do this but mind you this is risky , ok that thing you want to put them in is ok but you might want to put that thing in soethi so it doesnt mve around as much when you it pumps an eeything and yes you need to put a airstone in wth it i would put a big on and you might also ant to put the water from the tank in it with a few plants even if they fly arud , nd make sure they don et to hot ,also get a little filter you know that a sponge filte or anythign that will run bby airfilter and underwhate that is cheap , and take a a few breaks more them normb they are going to be stresed out from al ltht moving ad the water temp changing, but tht is one thing you can do oher thing is realy think about shipping t hem ,
  3. Unless you set up a fish tank inside your car theirs really no way of doing it!If you really want the fish bagging then up at your local fish store then sending them is the only other way!Bags are good for 24 to 36 hours !But research this I could be wrong!
  4. For 4 days aeration is required. keep a bottle of hydrogen peroxide handy and if the fish seem distressed and hanging near the top put one cap full per 10 gallons in with them. It will provide needed oxygen. DO NOT treat more than suggested as it can kill the fish. Treat only once every 24 hours. If they are in less than 10 gallons 15 drops per gallon will do it.
  5. Buy breather bags and follow the instructions on the bags These bags let co 2 out and oxygen in. I have keep fisdh in them for 5 days Do not feed your fish for 24 hours before baging them so no waste matter is excreated into the bags. You can order these bags at aquabid .com and click on shipping supplies Note you must follow the bagging instrctions
