  1. never saw anyone do that. Your best bet is to go to a Auto dealer and ask them. Expect to pay around $2,000 to have your car shipped. id drive, you will get around 9 days travel time, and can make the trip in 4 days
  2. Usually Jeeper is right on, but this time he is off. Go to your base Transportation Management Office, Household Goods Shipping, and ask them for a list of auto transport companies that they have used in the past. These companies have been vetted via DoD contracts folks, are insured, and have proven their reliability. Since you are not moving our vehicle at govt expense, the cost will be higher than the govt pays, but you can check it out by calling the companies on the list that you get from TMO. They will likely have a military discount. I have had my vehicle shipped to and from Hawaii via TMO. No problem from either direction. Don't recall the name of the company since it was an ocean shipment from Norfolk VA and picked the vehicle up in California. Question: Why not drive the vehicle. As Jeepers implied, it will be a fraction of what you would pay to have it shipped especially since you will be TAD for a limited amount of time. It takes about 4 days (pushing it a little) to drive from Norfolk to California (I did it 5 years ago in a Penski truck moving my household goods from Dumfries VA to a small town in Calif.). Great drive. Go to Orbitz or Expedia and look for motels of interest between Norfolk and California. For me it was West Memphis, TN; Ft. Smith AK, Flagstaff AZ, and then to destination.
