Why doesn't America have move public transportation like in Japan, or China, where students take trains, buses, and taxis to high school, why do we in the U.S. Have to ask for ours parents for a ride?

  1. We like being independent. People want to sit alone in their cars, and not be dealing with others the way you have to on public transportation. Today on the bus, the girl next to me would not get her leg off of me no matter how much I hinted, and leaned her purse on me, too. Not a lot of people want to put up with that.
  2. Many years ago when the car was first invented in the US, the car makers worked very hard to make both automobiles and cheap gas available for almost every working American. Over all these decades, the Americans have grown used to driving their own cars. The business of running buses nowadays always incur a loss because of the low demand, and the high cost of drivers in America. Therefore in America except in big cities like New York and Chicago, buses are either unavailable, or their schedules are not very helpful.
  3. Actually what you're talking about is common in many larger cities in America. Many transit services offer special student passes so that the students can take the existing transit network to school rather than having the schools run their own buses through the cities. Also, a lot of districts run school buses all over their district, even in rural areas, so even then a car isn't necessary to get to/from school unless you are getting there early or staying late.
