how can i track a cell phone?

is there a simple and free way to track a cell phone over the internet? OR... Do you have an idea how i can keep tabs on my GF without her knowing? (location,times etc)

1. I believe you two have to be under the same plan/account. I know you can track Verizon phones.
2. Kinda shady - well you DO need to be on the same account. I use a service to track where my daughter is - it's not free, but works GREAT and even lets me read her text messages and emails.
