How much money do you spend on public transport in 6 months time living in Manhattan?
How much money do you spend in 6 months using public transport? Buses, subways, taxis?

- Buses and subways depends on if you pay cash or use a MetroCard. With an Unlimited MetroCard, it cost US$540.00 http://www.mta.info/metrocard/mcgtreng.htm Taxis are $3 everytime you get in one plus distance, toll and waiting. One day you could spend $60 and another day $15 so it's hard to say. http://www.nyc.gov/html/tlc/html/passenger/taxicab_rate.shtml It's better to get a ZipCar (18+) or MintCar (21+) instead of taxis all the time.
- Basically I travel around NYC by Bus or Subway and I purchase a monthly metro card. Soon to expect to pay more for it with the MTA price increase.
- Your best bet is buying a unlimited monthly metrocard for the subway and bus which will cost you right now at $89, but it is proposed that is will go up to $130. There is also the unlimited daily for I believe $8.25 and weekly which is I believe $27.00. It is $2.25 one way right now, which will include one transfer to a bus, if you wait over a certain amount of hours then the transfer expires and you have to pay $2.25 again. Buses are basically the same deal, $2.25 one way and you can use metro cards or coins for the bus. With the unlimited metrocard you can get on any bus or subway train at any time for that week or month, however, if you pay one way then you have to get a transfer from bus to train or train to bus. Taxi's charge $2.50 the second you get in as an initial fare, then it goes up every 1/5 a mile by .40cents, meter goes up while idle, then there are other charges depending on the time of day. There is a flat rate from JFK into Manhattan and visa-versa. You pay toll for bridges. If you plan on just taking the subway and if there is no fare hike then $534, if you plan on taking taxis which everyone does occassionally then the fare depends on the above and changes.
- Public transportation costs $89 per month for an unlimited pass on the subway/local bus system. That adds up to $534 over 6 months. For people who commute to the outer boroughs for work using express buses (there aren't too many of them), the weekly express bus pass (which is valid on the local buses and subways as well) costs $45 a week, or about $1,080 every 6 months. For those paying by the ride on public transportation, the fare is $2.25 for local buses/subways, and $5.50 on express buses. How much you spend depens on how much you use the system. Taxis are expensive, with the fare being $2.50 just for getting in, and then $1.60 per mile. Again, the cost depends on how much you use the system. Hope this helps.
- 85$ x 6 = i should of had a better math education
