Does anybody know how to get to Durdle door(Jurassic Coast )from London by bus or any other public transport?
Cos I've no idea how far is it from any populated area and is it easy to find it? And I'd also like to know which is the best way how to get to Stonehenge (also from London) which city/ town is the nearest? I guess the only way how to get there is to take a taxi from nearest city/town.. Just planning a trip and these two places are my destination :)

- National Express do coaches from London to Bournemouth which is also in Dorset. Durdle Door: http://www.soton.ac.uk/~imw/durdle.htm It is a lovely part of the country, will see if I can find out any more for you. Trains do run from London to Weymouth which is nearer to Durdle Door than Bournemouth http://www.bargainspy.co.uk/node/54370 We didn't use public transport when we went down there two years ago. We camped at Corfe Castle - another place that is worth visiting whist in the area.
- Take the 103 bus from Dorchester to the entrance to Durdle Door Caravan park, walk from there. You can get the train to Dorchester. And learn to use www.travelinesw.com!
- Geoffrey is right. Take a train to Dorchester from Waterloo and get a bus from there. Salisbury is the nearest place to Stonehenge. There are various ways to get there by public transport. Additionally, there are coach tours from London. Another place that is worth a visit by train from London is Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. It's a three minute walk from Portsmouth Harbour Station. HMS Victory is wonderful. The rest of the museum is excellent too. (see attached links)
- do not get a taxi unless u are mega rich..go by train or bus or coach ,a lot of coach companies will do trips from london much cheaper
- I believe "Wool" was the closest train station the last time I went, but that was a looong time ago. We took a taxi from there to Durdle Door caravan park.
- Stonehenge: You don't need taxis at all. Catch a train from London Waterloo to Salisbury Station. They run every 30 minutes (hourly on Sundays) and the journey takes 85 minutes. Connecting buses run from outside Salisbury Station to Stonehenge and you can buy a comined rail/bus/Stonehenge admission ticket at Waterloo Station. www.southwesttrains.co.uk Salisbury has a beautiful cathedral which is worth looking at too If you intend doing quite a lot of rail travel in the U.K. you might consider buying a BritrailPass before arrival. www.britrail.com www.jurassiccoast.co.uk
