How much gasoline does it take to transport food across the country?
I am doing a class project, and I would just like some numbers on the amount of gas needed to transport food in the U.S. Thanks.

- It depends on how much you are transporting and in what kind of vehicle it is to be transported.
- IDK about just food. I heard a Truck Driver on the radio recently. $600.00 per week.
- your going to have to do some extra research but here's an idea. I drive truck for a living and using diesel fuel I average about 5 -7 miles per gallon. also depending on what type of food you would be transporting. if the food needs to stay cold/frozen or hot. the trailers will have refrigeration or heating units which also have a fuel tank that keeps the unit running. Thus you would also need the amount of fuel that the reefer(refrigerated trailer) unit uses. Which most likely would be demonstrated on a per hour basis. so good luck
- Too much! You need to decide how many miles the vehicle will travel, you need to decide how many miles the vehicle can travel on a gallon of gas. Decide if you will be transporting a large amount of food or a small amount to determine what type of vehicle will be used. A car gets maybe 25 miles to the gallon, while a semi may only get 5 miles to the gallon. If you have 100 lbs. of food to transport you would want a car. If you have 10 tons you would want to opt for the semi. From this information you can figure how much it will take to transport the food from point A to point B.
