Location Transport

How do the processes of active and passive transport occur and why each is important in the cell?

Here is the actual question. Explain how the processes of passive transport, and active transport occur, and why each is important to the cell.

  1. Passive transport is when a substance moves across the cell membrane without using energy; it moves down the concentration gradient. Active transport is the opposite, it is when substances move across the cell membrane using energy; usually moving against the concentration gradient. Each are important to the cell because they allow the transport of essential molecules through the selectively permeable membrane. In active transport, substances such as water and glucose (both essential for the cell) to pass through.
