Location Transport

I think I just bought a stolen iphone 4, can I still use it?

Okay before everyone starts telling me what I did wrong. I.e. bought it on craigslist, paid cash, met the guy between locations. On the phone the guy seemed like a good person. But I now I know that I am way to oblivious to the real world. After telling some friends, they have given me the felling that I bought a stolen iphone 4. I tried to see if someone owned it before me but it has no sim card and I can not turn it on. It says insert sim card and plug into itunes. I have no way of telling. I think the phone was whipped clean and there doesn't seem to be any information on it. I did some research but I really don't understand the rules about having the phone. Can I activate this phone? If I do, will I be in trouble for using it? I don't know what to do. I would have bought one form the apple store or att but they've been sold out for like a month now. If I call Att and try to add it to my account will I get in trouble, I mean even if I told them the situation? I tried to contact the seller and have not gotten a response, which makes me even more nervous.

  1. Just go to whoever you have to get service through and see what they say.
  2. If it is stolen, you will be responsible for receiving stolen property. A risk you take with craigslist, but threses so many stolen, I doubt you will get in trouble. Keep the guys number and posting, etc for defense in case you can help the police if its stolen.
  3. You can not be held responsible if it is stolen. You will need to take it to at&t to confirm and to get service though.
  4. You can use it if you don't mind sitting in jail! If you are suspecting it is stolen and you are in the presence of stolen property without notifying the police, you will be charged as an accomplice. If you do not turn it in, you are just as guilty as the thief.
