UPS Shipping Laptop from USA to Philippines?

I plan on shipping a laptop from the USA to the Philippines via UPS Worldwide Expedited. The value of the laptop is $1000 USD. Am I going to get a surprise massive customs charge when they deliver to my door? Is there a way to avoid this?

1. I once shipped a laptop to the Philippines and 2 months later paypal deducted the amount as it was bought with a stolen card. Don't send stuff to the philippines, that's what I learnt.
