How much weight can shipping containers have stacked on top?

Whats the strongest shipping/storage containers maximum stack weight?

  1. I have seen them stacked 5 or 6 high so assuming 40 tons for the big ones ,that would make at least 160-200 tons that they can support.
  2. Depends on the size and construction of the container.
  3. If you are asking about those shipping containers used on cargo vessels, probably about 10 high. They are stacked below the water-ling and exted about 3 or 4 containers above the top deck. But understand that only the corner posts support the weight. The roof supports no weight at all. The bottom frame of the container also supports only the weight of the single container - forklifts can pick these up. The actual flooring supports the weight of the cargo inside. The walls and ceiling support little weight themselves.
