Location Transport

What is the least time consuming way of going to UC Irvine from Los Angeles using public transport?

I live in Koreatown, Los Angeles, and need to go to UC Irvine using public transport (no taxi please). I checked Google Maps but the journeys listed are 5 to 6 hours long. Please let me know about the least time consuming journey with details. Thank you.

  1. Not sure where Koreatown is, but if you can get to Union Station, then take Metrolink or Amtrak from Union Station to Santa Ana. Get off at Santa Ana and take OCTA bus 59 to campus.
  2. Try Google Map with different times / days if it's possible to go at another time. The quickest time / most direct route would be about 2.5 hours. Also, check Metro.net http://www.metro.net/ Metro Trip Planner The easiest / quickest way is probably the Metro Red or Purple line to Union Station, then the Orange County Line or the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner, then a bus from the Santa Ana Metrolink Station. But it really depends on the time and day of the week you're traveling. Good luck!
  3. Take the Purple Line Train from Wilshire/Western. It takes 12 minutes to get to Union Station. Now you need to go to metrolinktrains.com and see the schedule for the Orange County Line. It takes about 35 minutes to get to my stop in Fullerton, but Tustin is 3 stops past that. Figure 50-60 minutes or so. The thing that will add the most time to the trip is waiting for the next metrolink train to OC. From the station, take OCTA bus 90 to Irvine Center Dr & Culver. Then transfer to OCTA bus 79 south to UC Irvine. Bus time is only 5 min for the 90 and 15 for the 79, but the wait times are what really add up.
