How do I Photoshop a Star Trek transporter beam-out?

I have a layer with an empty transporter pad and I have a layer with the person to be beamed out. Do I have everything I need? What are the steps? (I have Photoshop CS).

1. Just a thought, the original series used falling aluminum dust lit with a strong light. The newer series added some more effects. I do not think any of the preset PS filters would look strong enough, perhaps some diffuse glow? Anyway, live long, and prosper!
