How might the location of the United States make it possible for the nation to "steer clear of permanent alliances" with European nations? Any help would be great! Thank you..

- Just looking at a world map would answer the question... Do you see how far away we are from every belligerent nation? We don't have as much need for alliances as European nations do because we are so much more isolated.
- An ocean pretty much keeps us separate.
- The Atlantic Ocean. Crossing it used to take a lot of time, which made coming to an ally's aid impractical. There was limited benefit to be gained from agreements beyond those for commerce and civilian travel.
