  1. 1 Get a timetable from Waterloo Train Station and check times for trains to Salisbury. Timetables are also available online. If you have access to a computer and the Internet, check there instead. 2 Choose a day and time that is convenient for you. Keep in mind that travel time, one way, to Salisbury is about 90 minutes, so you will need a whole day for this trip. 3 Purchase train tickets. You can buy them ahead of time online or in person at Waterloo train station. Tickets can be purchased in advance or on the spot. 4 Arrive in Salisbury and arrange for a taxi to take you to Stonehenge or find the local bus schedule. Buses do run regularly to Stonehenge from Salisbury and are cheaper than a taxi. 5 Tour Stonehenge and listen to the audio tour on headphones. Admission to the monument is reasonable and there are discounts for children, students and seniors as well as a lower family rate. The headphones are included in the price if you would like to listen. 6 Browse the gift shop for a great souvenir. Stonehenge is such a unique place that you will not want to miss buying a one-of-a-kind souvenir. 7 Take the bus back to Salisbury to catch the train. Make sure you have allowed enough time to make the return train. 2. The best way is to take a tour bus - very comfortable, and you get a guided tour with it :) http://www.evanevanstours.co.uk/stonehenge-bath-tours.htm is one I've done before. Otherwise, train from Waterloo to Salisbury, then bus or cab from there.
  3. Catch an SWT train from London Waterloo to Salisbury. They run every 30 minutes (Hourly on Sundays) and the journey takes 85 minutes. Outside Salisbury Station catch the Stonehenge tour bus. The ticket office at Waterloo Station will sell you a combined rail/bus/Stonehenge admission ticket www.southwesttrains.co.uk Salisbury particularly the cathedral is well worth a visit too
  4. Well you can go via train from London Waterloo to Salisbury and then get the 'Stonehenge Bus', but it won't be much cheaper than taking a dedicated coach trip, and may even be more expensive. Our train fares in England are ridiculously high,,and by the time you figured it all out, waited for trains and buses you may be better off with a tour company. For example tat 2nd class day return from London to Salisbury is around £30 and the return bus from Salisbury to Stonehenge is £11, add to that admission to Stonehenge (£6:50) and the total price is approaching £50, so why bother with public transport. Admittedly though it will take the best part of a day, but it would if you did it yourself, a trip to Stonehenge from London and back cant be done very quickly unless you had a car, even then it's half a day. There is an example of a London based tour company below that do tours for under £40.
