why don't americans use much public transport....?
i was always curious... everywhere they go, they depend on cars a lot .. why is that ?/ .. same with canada... is it because its just ''vast'' .. i living in england cannot imagine the sheer size of those places to be honest .. but anyway, why not a ride on the public bus to go shopping downtown??
Public Comments
- b/c of them bums on there lol
- Generalizing. Wonderful.
- I actually enjoy riding buses and subways, and I do it frequently.
- Public transport scares me. There's a lot of creeps on there. At least where I live..yeah
- They rather drive their rich Royles Roce or Mercedes than take a bus where the poor ride. I use the bus and have no complaints against it.
- Americans who live in large cities are more likely to use public transportation. Around where I live we have no public transportation so you either gotta walk or drive yourself everywhere. Besides, I can only imagine how dirty it must be, seeing as some people can't go anywhere without making a mess.
- Ew the public buses are dirty, and have a bunch of dirt ball weirdos. lol the public buses in the big cities here are scary imo lol
- I would ride the bus, but there aren't any in the city I live in.
- You have hit a key point... the "Vastness" of the USA !! When I lived in the suburbs I commuted by bus and train to work / school... would walk the 2 blocks to the market... things are CLOSE. Now out here in the country... it's 15 miles from our house to "town" (a grocery / hardware) and 45 miles to a major shopping area !! We just don't have the money or population density out here for regular public transit !! There is ONE bus in our county that makes a route three times a day... the total route is 100 miles !! For the MOST part... urban / suburban areas in the States have Fair to Excellent public transportation... but we haven't put enough tax on gas to force people out of their cars and onto public transit !!
- i use public transportation, and i HATE IT! mass transit is the worst EVER if you live in NY!. every time i get on the bus or the M Train for my doctors office. i deeply regret not learning how to drive! picture this! your going home from the doctor. and on the next stop of the bus a large group of 14 year old school girls gets on! AND THEY CANT STOP TALKING!!! they are so loud the people outside in the street hear them, and they dont care. they are just going wild! talking and playing with their fancy pink colored smartphone! talking on them texting. and here i am in the back, sitting quietly, just wanting some peace and quiet as the bus wheezes its way to the train station. and theses [bleeping] girls wont stop! i want to scream ''this isnt your private bus! shut the [bleep] up'' ''talk all you [bleeping] want after you get off the [bleeping] bus'' ''the whole [bleeping] bus doesn't need to hear you tiny little problems''
- bcs, where I live, it's virtually non-existent To get downtown (and why you'd want to is beyond me bcs places to shop downtown disappeared 20 years ago!), I'd have to drive 2.5 miles to the nearest bus stop and the trip itself would take close to one hour. By car, it takes me 20 minutes. Additionally, the buses run from 6 am to 5:30 or 6 pm and never on Sunday. A cab is even worse. Your wait, after calling for a cab is usually around one hour. I've never seen a cab stand and the only time I've seen cabs on the road, they have passengers.
- There's not much public transport where I live and lots of people own cars feeling more comfortable driving to the place themselves
