  1. depends on what kind of business youre starting
  2. I would definitely consider how much traffic there is. If you are opening a retail business where people will be coming in and out all day you want to make sure there are people around. Also you will need to consider parking for the same reason. You will also need to price different properties. Most commercial property is priced per square foot so you will need to know how much room you need and how much you can afford to pay for it. There are studies available that tell you what the median income is for certain areas. If you know you are selling a high end product you will want to put it in a neighborhood where people can afford it. Finally check out the competition and make sure there is a need for your business in that area. Hope this helps. Best of luck to you.
  3. Location, Location, Location,,,,,,,,,esp. depending on what your business is, ,,,, just as an example, how does a tattoo shop sound sitting on some campus site????? EXCELLENT!!!!!!! college students, LOVE EM!!!!!!!!!!! see what i'm sayin???? Good LUCK!!!!!!!!!
  4. Safety Market population Parking & convenience (usually opposite to safety) Cost Climate (rain, flood,..etc)
  5. I want to be near my potential customers. Also, I would want a location that was very visible from the street. (It also depends on the type of business you are starting.) Good luck.
  6. much depends on type of business---direct service businesses need to be near their customer base---determine who your main market is going to be.---with businesses offering one of a kind or limited product location is not as important---but service and response time become more important ( example: antique car repair, office furniture repair) Mail order or computer based businesses can be located anywhere.
  7. If it is a retail business that consumers will be visiting, I carefully consider the parking and access. I do not want a location where it will be impossible for anyone to make a left turn in or out of my business, because of traffic density. I do not want a location where a customer exiting my business will come to a stop sign where the traffic flow on cross street so heavy they have to wait 15 minutes to get out, and thus decide they not want to ever come back to my store. I also consider long term growth ... it is no good opening a store where the traffic situation will be badly congested 10 years from now. Property Taxes and local government infrastructure is important. We can get a cheap place just outside the city limits, but is the infrastructure adequate? Telecommunications are essential nowadays. Does the site have a choice of phone companies, cable companies, Internet service providers, or are we stuck with one high priced poor quality provider? Security ... is there good police protection & is it in a neighborhood that does not get robbed all the time, or have to pay mafia protection rackets? Fireproof ... is the structure good quality or at risk? Weather ... is the location in an area where we can regularly expect Tornados, Hurricanes, flooding, inaccessibility in winter?
