Moving a bathtub in a highrise condo - especially the drain location?
I am on the 11th floor of a highrise condo and want to renovate mt bathrooom. Is it possible to drastically change the location of my tub (by a few feet). Can drains be moved very easily in condos? Thanks.

- Highly unlikely, unless it was built with some sort of false floors where your pipes run through. Most likely, you're standing on concrete, and so is your tub--so, everything is where it is forever. Even if do-able, condo corp probably would never allow it, even if you were in a townhouse.
- Depends on the space available below the tub. Drains have to be sloped so much per lineal foot, and this is governed by the local building codes. Word of warning: If you violate building codes and cause damage to other peoples property [everyone below you], you WILL be held financially responsible for ALL repairs, and could be on the hook for hotel expenses if they are unable to live in their condo while the work is being completed. A state licensed and bonded and insured [very important] plumber would be your best bet. Your condo by-laws may also prohibit this renovation. Better safe than sorry [and bankrupt].
- I would think so sorry !!!try some decorating stuff for changes ,I know not the same !!well If you got a ton of cash anything is possible! buy the whole darn building ,oh well wishful thinking good luck.
- Certainly it can be done - but the aggravation may be more than what you want. Your bathroom and the bathroom of the guy on the 10th floor and 12th floor, are identical. If you check the ceiling in your bathroom, you'll see that it's drywall and hollow above. If you were to open it up, you'd see the drains from the bathroom of the guy on the 12th floor. If you want to relocate drains in your bathroom, you'll need to access the ceiling of the unit below you. This means getting their permission and paying to have their unit repaired after construction. As a plumber, I've seen it done, but it's not for the weak of heart. It takes a lot of determination and effort. Not so much for the work as for the logistics of getting everyone to agree.
