How can I make a cell phone tracking device?
I want to be able to know the location of my cell phone, without asking my service provider. I want to make a device for the purpose. I'm sure it can be made. I've seen a project of the exact description in an electronics exhibition... The only problem is that I dont have any contact with the exhibitors...

- If I knew how to make it i wouldn't be telling you. I would be inventing it myself. Besides the cell phone companies already can track most phones through GPS in the phone
- Most of the GSM carriers provide cell/location info to the cellphone as part of the downlink, this is to keep track of the signal strength when you move between different cell areas. If you have a programmable phone such as those based on Symbian, you can programatically obtain the info and transmit it to a IP based server via GPRS on the background. This application will constantly update your server of its location. Its not trivial, at the sametime its not impossible either. You would just have to overcome the device limitations. Hope this helps.
