Can you track where a text message was sent from ? Does the phone co keep these records?

I would like to know if you sent text messages from a disposable phone, then disposed of the phone, can those messages be tracked back to their physical location where they originated? Does the cell phone company maintain the physical location of the phones usage, if the phone was registered with no name and no address and using a random area code? I am trying to determin how "anonymous" disposable phones really are.

2. Well they can track the text to a specific number. I don't think they go out of their way to see what tower it hit to be sent to you and if they do they wouldnt give you that information. So no they can't get get a specific address just a general area.
